Our Vision

To restore the standard of excellence according to God’s design.  St. Phillips is to be a place of gladness, a place of growth and a place of grace. First, if the church is the family of God, it ought to be a place of laughter, a place of joy, a place where people like to go and want to be. The most important quality of a growing church is a spirit of love and joy that embraces everyone who walks through the doors. There are no walls or false faces, the people are eager to bear one another’s burdens. The pastor’s love for the people is expressed, accepted, and returned. It should be a happy place. The psalmist said, “I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord”        (Psalms 122:1). Unless people are saying that about our church family, it is not like a family and we will not grow as we should.

Second, if the church is a family it should be a place of growth. The purpose of the church is not just mutual enjoyment, but also for mutual enrichment for spiritual development. It is to be a place where we can grow to our full potential in Christ. In the church there are different levels of maturity. Some have just been born again. They are infants in the faith. Others are spiritual adolescents. And others are mature spiritually. The church has been called by some a “mothering community.” It is a place where people are loved, accepted, helped, and encouraged as they grow. It is a place where each member takes upon himself the responsibility for the spiritual life of the other members of the church. Every member is to help every other member to be a better Christian. It is a place where all newborn Christians can gather in fellowship and worship and service and receive the nourishment, understanding, and guidance that makes growth possible.

The church is to grow not just by addition, but also by nutrition. The writer of the book of Hebrews puts it this way, “Let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as we see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25). Note the words “one another” in the verse. God has a long list of “one anothers: that must not be ignored if the church is to shine forth as a beacon in the world.

The spiritual candle power of individual Christians will become brighter as more of God’s “one anothers” plan works in us.

Our Mission

Evangelize the lost:   Our mission is to seek the salvation of the unsaved by fulfilling the Great Commission.  It is our goal and duty to bring lost souls to Jesus Christ.  Real love for mankind will constrain us to shed the light of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ to our brothers and sisters and open our hearts and doors to include them, irrespective of creed, color or any barrier of society (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15-16).

Exalt God through worship:   Our mission is to seek to provide an atmosphere where the fulfilled, true and ordered worship of God can be experienced and practiced in one’s daily life.  It is the mission of St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church to provide an atmosphere conducive for a fulfilled corporate worship experience, which will inspire every believer to engage in a life of healthy and wholesome daily and private worship (Ephesians 5:19-20; Hebrews 10:25, 13:15).

Empower and enhance God’s family:  To seek to completely support every member of the Body of Christ by perpetuating the Gospel through meaningful ministries that aid the whole man.  It is continuously the duty of the church and every member to engage in the support of each other through love, harmony and unity.  All ministries of this church are for the aiding of the whole man (man, body and soul) (Thessalonians 5:23, II Corinthians 4:14-15).

It is our goal to become an Acts 2:42-47 church family: therefore we must:

1.Be a sharing community.

2.Demonstrate special care for one another

3.Have spiritual camaraderie

4. Sincerely celebrate God in a family environment

Equip God’s people for service:   To seek the spiritual growth and maturity of every believer through disciplining, teaching, preaching and exhorting from the word of God, as well as creating unique opportunities for service to the Kingdom of God.

It is imperative that we are especially concerned with the proper spiritual growth of our members through discipleship and service.  We believe that spiritual growth is impossible without every member being actively engaged in the Kingdom of God’s ministry.  Every aspect of this church is closely treated by the word of God for its acceptability as a mechanism for spiritual growth and discipleship (Ephesians 4:11-12; Acts 20:28, 32; I Peter 5:2).

Edify the church through prayer:  To seek to build up and support every aspect of the church’s life and membership through spirit-directed prayer and intercession.

It is the mission of this church to actively intercede through corporate and private prayer on behalf of the total life and effectiveness of St. Phillips, its pastor, leadership and members.  Since the New Testament was born in prayer (Acts 1:14, 24) and progressed in its growth through prayer (Acts 2:42, 4:24, 31; 6:4), we feel that prayer should be the supreme method through which all of the ministries of the church operate.

Our community faces an increasingly alarming rate of high school dropout, teenage pregnancy, gang violence and teenage alcohol and drug use.  Unfortunately, the youth of the Singing Hills community face these and countless other obstacles.  The church is a vital part of any true community, and as such, we’re able to see the long-term effects of many of these issues and the toll they can take on our families and neighborhoods.  That’s why we need your help to make an immediate impact in the lives of our youth by evangelizing to meet the needs of the community.

We want to help instill in our youth that they can achieve anything in life with dedication, a strong work ethic and God’s direction.
